Leading Like Jesus

Pastor Terry begins a seven-week series on the Book of Titus, focusing on biblical leadership. The first session covers the commitments and character of a faithful leader, using Paul’s letter to Titus as the foundation.

1. Commitment of a Faithful Leader:

   – To the Master: Leaders must be devoted to God above all, serving for His glory, not for recognition or titles.

   – To the Mission: Christians are called to represent Christ, live godly lives, and help others prepare for eternal life.

   – To the Message: The core message is that God loves everyone and Christ died for all. Leaders must share this through preaching and personal witness.

   – To the Method and the Masses: The responsibility to spread the gospel is entrusted to all believers, and partnership with others (like missionaries) is essential.

   – To the Messenger: Leaders must train and delegate to others, ensuring the ministry continues beyond themselves.

2. Character of a Faithful Leader:

   – Leaders must first lead themselves, demonstrating self-control and integrity both publicly and privately.

   – They should be blameless, not self-willed, not quick-tempered, and not motivated by personal gain.

   – Leaders must be hospitable, lovers of good, sober, just, holy, and able to teach sound doctrine.

3. Principles of Leadership:

   – Delegation: Like Moses in Exodus 18, leaders must delegate responsibilities to avoid burnout and to train others.

   – Biblical Authority: All advice and leadership must be rooted in Scripture, not personal opinion.

   – Five Traits of a Godly Leader:

     1. Copyable: Live in a way that others can imitate.

     2. Transparent: Be genuine and consistent in all areas of life.

     3. Learning: Continually grow and learn from others.

     4. Serving: Lead by serving others, following Christ’s example.

     5. Relatable and Encouraging: Help others realize their potential and encourage them in their walk.

Pastor Terry concludes with a call to self-examination: everyone is a leader to someone, and the question is whether we are leading others toward Christ by our example.
