What I look for in a True Church – Salvation by Grace

We preach the doctrine of salvation by grace through faith in Christ, not of works. “By grace are ye saved, through faith and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God and not of works, lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8-9. That simply means that a sinner is saved by the grace of God, not by any work he performed yesterday, today, and tomorrow. That is what it means. So when I look for the New Testament Church, that is a local, visible assembly of God’s people who are saved and scripturally baptized, associating together in some definite locality for the purpose of carrying out the Lord’s Commission.

The Lord Blesses When We Are Faithful

Today February 2, 2014 started off as a type of day that every Pastor I know of dreads. Temperatures below freezing and a wintry mix of sleet and snow were already present. Already we were looking for a below average attendance, and no one wants that especially when they have a special speaker in to start a conference. Many churches in the area cancelled their church services and spent the day at home with family. Not us at Cornerstone Baptist! What if Jesus would have said, “sorry it is not very easy up on this cross and this cross is not comfortable. I just cannot make this sacrifice for you.” He would not have done such a thing, but when it comes time for us as Christians to really show some sacrifice back to him and faithfully serve him, we say sorry, it is too inconvenient for us. But us at Cornerstone said, Lord let Thy will be done… The Lord blessed and we saw four people trust Christ as their personal Saviour, two people follow the Lord in believer’s baptism, and one rededicate their life to the Lord for his service. God again showed us how he blesses those who faithfully trust in Him. Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”
