Stewardship: Truth, Testimony & Time

“Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.” – I Corinthians 4:2

What is a steward?

This week we will be talking about the stewardship of the Truth, of our Testimony, and of our Time.

Truth I Cor. 4:1; I Thess. 2:4; I Cor. 5:19-20; I Tim. 1:11; Titus 1:3

John 17:17 – “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy is truth.”

Every Christian has been given the responsibility to get the Gospel around the world.

“Truth alone will endure, all the rest will be swept away before the tide of time. I must continue to bear testimony to truth even if I am forsaken by all. Mine may today be a voice in the wilderness, but it will be heard when all other voices are silenced, if it is the voice of Truth.”

Jesus Christ is the Word of God. (Jn. 1:1-3; 14; I John 5:7) The Word of God is Truth. (Jn. 17:17) Therefore Jesus Christ is Truth. (Jn. 14:6)

Knowing the Truth and doing something with it are two different things!

Testimony II Corinthians 3:2

We may be the only “Bible” that many people read. Are they reading a false gospel?

We all have an influence on others. We influence the lost toward Christ or toward Hell.
It is our duty as Christians to live a life that influences people for right. This is why God’s Word teaches us that we are to abstain from all appearances of evil – I Thess. 5:22.

Proverbs 14:34; Matt. 5:14-16

Many people never trust Christ because of our hypocrisy.

Time Ephesians 5:16

How are you living your life?
Is it pointing others to Christ or away from Christ?
What are you doing with the Truth?
Are we being good stewards of the Gospel?
Are we being good stewards with our testimony in this sin-sick world?

Time is a commodity God gives equally to every man – yet our stewardship of it varies greatly. We must use our time wisely. We each have 168 hours in a week. We each have10,080 minutes in a week. We each have 604,800 seconds in a week. Yet, we each use our time in many different ways.

Let me give you a simple outline of how to tithe our time to the Lord:
We have 168 hours in a week, so we owe God 16.8 hours or 16 hours and 48 minutes. Let’s just round this up to 17 hours. How can I give 17 hours back to God (just to be right with Him as the tithe is concerned)?
Church attendance – 5 ½ hours (Sunday School – 1; Sun. AM – 1 ½; Sun. PM – 1 ½; Wed. – 1 ½)
Reading your Bible and Praying – 7 hours (1 hour combined every day)
Visitation/Soul-winning – 2 hours (that’s not really difficult to do)
Working on a bus or van route – 2 ½ hours (it’s an investment)
Singing specials – 1 hour (it takes a lot of practice)
Cleaning at the church – 1 hour (there’s always something to do)
This is just a small list of things we can do with very minimal times put beside them and we already have a total of 19 hours. If we were to get serious about living for God, it wouldn’t be hard to find something to do for Him.
